A Sabbath in Capernaum

At evening when the sun was set,And opal clouds were turning gray,Before the door of Simon's houseThe sick, the lame, the palsied lay.

Removal

As far as east is from the west,So far doth God removeOur sins from us,For naught but goodAbides in light of Love.

LOST AND FOUND

I saw that in order to find my life, I had to first lose it—that is, lose all sense of life as material.

Limitless Supply

How often have I watched an ocean wavePush forward, gather native strength, repressed,And rise, and rise, and then a moment rest,Ere power within burst from its arched concaveTo scatter wide a wealth of jewels, to laveAnd beautify the shore! In eager questAgain it gathers treasures to its breastAnd casts them at my feet.

Miracle

When, long ago, those fair Judean waysOur loving Master trod,How filled were all his days with living proofOf unity with God;The Holy Word to humble folk he taught,New faith, new hope, new aims to them he brought;Blind eyes at his command received the light,Dumb lips cried out in awe before his might.

Grace

Not for mere time that speeds from sun to sun,We ask for grace; But that each moment's task be so begunThat Love's bright faceWith radiant blessing on our way may shine,And so our lives reflect the Life divine.

Communion

Welcome, welcome, unseen guest,Thou art come and we are blessed! We would sit and sup with thee,In Soul's sacred sanctuary.

From Conquering hate, enthroning peace

Love's triumph over hate

How can we love when others hate? Prayerful turning to God, divine Love, with the earnest desire to express His qualities under all circumstances will give us strength and ability to do right.

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

Invulnerable

Should man throw stones to break the sun's great might,He would but tire himself at each endeavor; The stones reach not the sun, whose undimmed lightShines on to bless and benefit forever.

Overcoming

Dear Father, may we stand through error's night,Rejoicing in Truth's ever present day;Like Jacob strive, and like him see the light,Steadfastly hold to angel-thoughts alway;Resist all evil; prove its nothingness;Destroy the arguments of mortal sense,And find security in time of stressBy firm reliance on omnipotence.

True Vision

I could not understand the reason whyThe world was sad and full of bitterness; What meant the ceaseless rushing to and froOf mortals, catching at a fleeting glimpseOf that they thought spelled happiness complete,Though, having caught it, saw it swiftly dashedIn pieces 'neath their eyes.

Service

It is to stand when all else seems to fall,And lift your vision to a higher plane; It is to see beyond the encircling pallOf disappointment, and of grief and pain.
I would that I could make new words—How pure those words would be,How filled with love and blessedness,How fraught with majesty—That I might use them to expressMy gratitude to TheeFor all the lovely gifts Thou giv'st,For all the good I see.
