The Adam myth, debunked
A widely known allegory that begins in chapter 2 of the Bible’s book of Genesis introduces an imperfect creation with a sinning main character known as Adam. Throughout this story, creation is formed of material elements. And from this myth has arisen the theological teaching that humanity is inherently sinful.
Genesis 1, however, reveals God’s work as entirely good and God as giving man, male and female, dominion over all things. With Christ Jesus’ advent, the falsity of the Genesis 2 account is made clear. Jesus rejected every evidence of a material creation by healing sin, sickness, and death. He taught, “The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21).
The Apostle Paul, a preeminent follower of Jesus, discerned the Savior’s proof of man’s immortality, declaring in a letter: “Since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. . . . The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven“ (I Corinthians 15:21, 22, 47).
