Breathing difficulty healed
During high school, I frequently had trouble breathing, especially when my schoolwork was stressful. When this happened, I felt a heavy weight on my chest and couldn’t take a deep breath. This problem continued off and on through college and the next few decades, often very intensely.
Although I was a practicing Christian Scientist during this time, the condition felt so much a part of me that I didn’t think it could be healed. Whenever it happened, I tried various methods to calm myself, such as breathing exercises or just lying down and emptying my thoughts. These brought only temporary relief.
But a few years ago, something changed in my thinking. I realized not only that it was possible to be fully healed of this, but also that there was nothing that could ever have prevented healing. Christian Science teaches that God, Spirit, is our only creator. As the first chapter in the Bible declares, God made His creation—including each one of us in our true, spiritual individuality—entirely good. To me, that meant that I was divinely created and completely good. Nothing could be added to me (anxiety), and nothing could be taken away (peace).
