Scarring healed

Several years ago, I was hiking in the beautiful Colorado mountains with a friend. During a break, I went to sit down on what looked like a soft bed of pine needles. But to my surprise, I had unknowingly sat on hundreds of tiny nettles that pierced my leggings and embedded themselves in my backside, releasing a painful, stinging chemical. It was incredibly uncomfortable, and I had no idea how to get them out.

When I got home, I tried everything I could think of humanly, but the nettles were so small and in so deep that I couldn’t reach or remove them. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer, and within just a few minutes, the intense stinging pain completely stopped. I felt a peace wash over me, as I knew that nothing could deface the tablet of my being, as our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (see p. 227). I was so grateful!

Over time, the tops of the nettles fell away, but after several months, I found that they had left behind dozens of very visible scars—unsightly and a constant reminder of the experience. But I refused to accept that scarring could have any reality or permanence in me, since I am an idea of God.
