Going the full distance

Spiritual courage is indispensable to Christian healing. Courage is often confused with outward boldness or force of personality. But spiritual courage is God-derived. It is a quality that one New Testament writer calls “the spirit . . . of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (II Timothy 1:7) and is reflected by man, the true, spiritual identity of each one of us.

Courage may begin as a stand against fear. But as our understanding of God grows, it becomes something else. Instead of bravery in the face of danger, it is the recognition that danger has never had reality in God’s creation. Disease, or whatever face the threat wears, yields to a simple fact: Man is the spiritual expression of God, eternal Life.

Once we begin to glimpse the wholly spiritual nature of being and rely on it in healing, we meet resistance. This rarely looks like an open denial of Truth. It is a subtler invitation to compromise with material thinking.
