Only God’s goodness ‘runs in the family’
My great-grandparents were contemporaries of Mary Baker Eddy, and my great-grandmother was the first in our family to become a Christian Scientist. She raised 13 children, and she also held mortgages for people, so she was a businesswoman back when many women were not engaged in such activities.
Fast-forward many years. My dad moved to New York and started his career in architecture, relying on Christian Science for his health and guidance, and becoming an active church member. He married our mom, and when my sister and I were little girls, he took us to the Christian Science Sunday School every week, starting with the baby class.
Our mother never became a Christian Scientist herself, but she did not object to our attending Sunday School. I think it is this early spiritual education that helped prepare me for the challenges that came my way.
