When I made Christian Science my own
I’d like to share the first healing I had through my own prayers, which occurred as a result of my choosing Christian Science as my path in life.
From a young age, my siblings and I attended Sunday School at our local branch Church of Christ, Scientist. There I came to know God as infinite—as all good, perfect, the only cause and creator—and myself as God’s likeness, as explained in the first chapter of Genesis in the Bible. But there came a time when I wanted to be certain that what I was learning was the truth and that I could prove it for myself.
That time arrived in my early teens, when several warts developed on my hands, quickly increasing in number and becoming larger. I was embarrassed every time somebody noticed them. I’d had healings before through the application of the teachings of Christian Science, but those came about mainly through my mother’s prayers, and this time I felt I should pray on my own. I saw it as an opportunity to deepen my understanding of who I really am, to learn more about my true identity as spiritual and flawless, and to find my way out of a false concept of myself as material and vulnerable.
