The proof of prayer
My mother was introduced to Christian Science by her piano teacher—but many years lapsed before she began to attend church regularly and study the Bible Lesson outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. I was about seven when my mother took up the study of Christian Science in earnest.
Prior to this I had been a sickly child. In those days family doctors made house calls, and ours was a regular visitor. My first grade teacher considered having me repeat first grade because I missed so many days due to illness.
My Sunday School teacher at the Protestant church we attended told the class about Jesus’ healing work. I longed for good health and freedom from the bouts of flu, colds, sinus infections, and earaches that recurred so frequently. I vividly recall asking her why no one healed as Jesus did. Her patient response indicated, as I recall, that healing was something special that only Jesus did.
