I am God's 'adorable one'
For many years, I had suffered from medically diagnosed neuralgia, using medicine daily for pain. The medicine was not healing me, and I seemed to be growing weaker, unable to keep up with our family of five, which included three energetic little boys. As a faculty wife, it was also becoming difficult for me to support my husband’s university activities, as well as keep up with my work in a large Methodist church as a Sunday School teacher.
My husband and I had been introduced to Christian Science some time before all this, when his sister had been healed of a serious illness. So, at one point, I decided to give Christian Science a try. I reasoned, “This religion either works, or it doesn’t!” I decided to discard all my medication and earnestly study Christian Science.
I took up the study of the “little book” (see Revelation 10:2), Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. Daily, when I had some free time, I read and studied the chapter “Prayer.” The spiritual sense of the Lord’s Prayer, as written by Mrs. Eddy (see pp. 16–17), lit up like a beacon to me: “Hallowed be Thy name. / Adorable One” really shook me!
