Love in lavender

My study of Christian Science has inspired me to link all good to God—and one day last year, I had tangible proof of God’s goodness, care, and love.

For some reason, I had been feeling down and unloved for several days. Then one morning I heard a knock on the door, and on opening it I saw the little boy, age three and a half, who lives across the street from me. I went to my knees so as to be at his height. He handed me three sprigs of lavender and looking very solemnly at me, declared, “It’s lavender.” I could barely keep from grinning.

And then, without any particular reason, he opened up his little arms and sort of “sank” against me, resting in my arms for several seconds with his little head on my shoulder. My heart melted. I make it a point to keep in mind the gratitude I felt, and continue to feel, for that sweet moment when the unexpected gift of God’s love, on a day when I needed it the most, manifested itself through this dear little boy—whom, needless to say, I love with all my heart.
