Complete healing after a fall
Last autumn, my wife, sister, and I were in St. George, a sparkling city in the southwest corner of Utah. We were going to be taking a bus tour of the majestic national parks and Lake Powell, which grace southern Utah. I was greatly looking forward to photographing this beautiful area.
The first afternoon of our trip, we toured a state park near St. George. Our tour guides, a lovely couple, then dropped off my sister and me at a camera store before returning my wife and other tourists to the college dormitory where we were staying for the night. My sister and I had planned to walk the eight blocks back to the dormitory, but our guides came back and graciously offered to give us a ride.
My sister had just entered the car, which was sitting at the curb, and I was partly inside when the driver, thinking that I was already in, started to take off. I was spun around and hurled against the concrete sidewalk. For several minutes I was stunned. After I regained my composure, my sister helped me to my feet. I prayed to know that I was under God’s care—and that He is lovingly caring for each of us. I continued to mentally lean on these spiritual facts, and to know that man, the real spiritual selfhood of each of us, cannot fall out of God’s overarching protection. And how preposterous to think that an ever-caring God would reward a good and thoughtful deed with a mistake!
