A snowboarding parable

Being out on the slopes, I’ve been thinking a lot about parables. You know, those little stories that teach you about God and His kingdom? Well, they’re everywhere! So let’s keep our eye out for them.

First, there’s the parable of the helmet, or rather, the God-given helmet of salvation! Nice and secure, and frankly, it’s the helmet of salvation that makes me feel comfortable and safe out here.

Just like a snowboard is built for the snow, prayer is built for life. And just like I strap myself into my board, you can strap yourself into prayer and feel centered on God and what He’s created.

Now, my best turns on a snowboard are the ones that aren’t forced—they’re smooth, natural, graceful. And the same thing with prayer: It’s not about forcing things to happen; it’s listening for God and letting the ideas that come gracefully turn us in the direction that God has for us. God’s direction is always good!

So we can pray no matter where we are, and we can see God’s parables no matter where we are, and let those things lead us into a better understanding of His kingdom.
