'SPOT ON'
I just read cover to cover the new Sentinel, March 19, “Finding home.” What a wonderful fulfilling of God’s love for His creation! The whole publication was exactly what was needed for my own work as I currently pray through the economic and housing challenges that are facing many. Every article was spot on metaphysically and is blessing the world. The timing is always amazing, and yet, I also say, “Of course,” God is always sending angels to “comfort, guard and guide.” As we quietly listen, follow His “still small voice,” and are grateful for His blessings, they unfold in our lives and the lives of those around us.
Thank you so much for these “sentinels of Truth,” and for being willing disciples in developing these wonderfully inspiring publications.

ALERT TO TRENDS
I have been so grateful that the bird-flu pandemic ceased to be a world issue. The editorial, “Watching horizons and trends,” in the March 5 Sentinel [“Erasing mistakes”] discusses the need to be alert to trends in world thought. It points out that economic deterioration is another global thought trend that needs our prayers, and that “one with God is a majority.” The understanding of God’s allness leaves no room for global economic downturns. Each week I look forward to receiving the Sentinel and finding ideas that will help me see man and the world through God’s eyes.

WONDERFUL MEMORIES
The February 20 Sentinel, focusing on hymns and healing, unleashed a virtual avalanche of wonderful memories of music and especially hymns.
One of my earliest (and happiest) recollections is of my mother playing the piano with her five girls standing around her singing. I can’t imagine being given a more precious gift than this. My parents were of very modest means, but I feel that having music in our lives made it impossible to feel poor. Music provides a richness that is beyond material wealth. And since that time music has played an important part in my life.
In growing up, my closest friend was my sister who was two years older than I. When she joined the Air Force immediately following graduation from high school, I was bereft. There was a huge void in my life. Although I had not had piano lessons, my mother had shown me how to read the notes, and so I began to learn to play the hymns on my own. I would take the hymns we had sung in Sunday School and patiently figure out the notes (one by one) until the hymns sounded somewhat like they were supposed to. Just as I was beginning to learn the hymns this way, my church asked me to play for the Sunday School. And for many years afterward, I was able to substitute in church when there was a need.
Someone once shared the suggestion that instead of recalling your age as a number, put the corresponding hymn number in its place so that way you can have your own hymn to cherish through the year. I highly recommend this. I have done it, and it has brought much joy.
So my heartfelt thanks for the wonderful Sentinel that brought so many wonderful experiences back to thought.
