Staying in touch

The Mother Church President’s ongoing blog

The President of The Mother Church, Marta Greenwood, of London, England, is not only a Christian Science practitioner and teacher, but also serves on the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.

Madison, Wisconsin, US: The international headlines today reflect a serious economic and political divide worldwide. Christ Jesus showed clearly where we need to look and how we can claim unity. Instead of just watching each other, we can watch for guidance from our one Father-Mother, God—the source of all good. In John 17, Jesus has some deep conversation with his Father, just within the shadow of the cross. He is praying that his loved disciples might have unity through oneness, and he is providing the ultimate example of where oneness can be achieved: “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me” (verse 21). The unity Jesus taught his disciples was the model relationship he had with his Father-Mother, God.

Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England: The Christian Science church is in a vibrant part of the town. There was a big noisy party going on next door to the church, where I was giving a lecture on the Ten Commandments. We were having our own spiritual party. There was such joy and laughter and love in the church. One of the fruits of Spirit is joy, and a church that expresses this joy finds its burden always light. In Galatians 5:22, 23 we read: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.”  Afterwards, we all left the lecture feeling so loved and joyous.
