A businessman’s prayerful moments

I’m a businessman with a very demanding schedule, but I still manage to find plenty of time for Christian Science on a daily basis. My public transit commute is about 45 minutes each way, and that is now dedicated to prayer, reading the Christian Science Bible Lesson, and other spiritual study. So that’s a guaranteed 1.5 hours per day right there. I consider the commute my “closet,” because I am assured of no professional or family distractions. I used to be annoyed by the commute. Now I look forward to it!

And I’ve worked on my time management. It’s so essential to take advantage of the moments that otherwise become idle. For example, while I’m walking around in between meetings or maybe going out to get lunch, I have often fiddled with the browser on my mobile phone, usually getting nonessential information. Now I leave the default setting on spirituality.com. This habit helps keep me looking in the right direction throughout my day, rather than just in the early morning and late evening. I read half of Science and Health in this manner during one month, just from these small moments that might otherwise have been wasted.

Maintaining an altitude of thought makes such a difference to my attitude and productivity—my overall sense of well-being throughout the day. And since I made these changes to my habits, friends, family members, and co-workers have often commented on my increased level of relaxation, happiness, and efficiency.
