Cleansed and healed
In the first week of 2010, my face suddenly became extremely swollen and discolored. Because the problem was so visible (you can’t hide your face), everything in my life came to a screeching halt—work, church, exercise class, shopping—everything. I looked so bad that I wouldn’t even go outside to pick up the newspaper until after dark.
I had always prided myself on being a very active person, but I came to see that this pride was perhaps masking a reluctance to be still and quiet. Little did I know that I would have a glorious opportunity to be still and quiet with God! It took me a while to appreciate this part of the healing.
I called a Christian Science practitioner to help me because I was very frightened by the symptoms, which seemed to get worse as the week wore on. As a life-long Christian Scientist I had always had very quick healings through prayer, so this was difficult for me. I was almost as horrified that I was stuck in the house, that I was missing work (what would they think since I was the “dependable one”?) as well as all my other activities.
