Singing in perfect harmony

I remember a popular song, some years ago, that included the lyrics, “I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.” It was translated into many languages and became a hit around the world. Written during a time of cold war, a world in many ways politically, racially, and ethnically more divided than today, it brought a simple and delightful message of love, hope, and peace, underscoring all people’s deep desire to live together in concord.

Whether it’s the whole diverse human family, or our own extended or nuclear family, we all want to “sing” together in harmony—feel that joyful unity and love for each other that makes for happiness.

With its special focus on harmony in families, this double issue of the Sentinel shows how harmony in life does not have to be just a hopeful wish, but is for real. It is the wonderful, mandated provision from our divine Father-Mother God. Because the perfect harmony of God is present everywhere, even in the most discordant, seemingly unsolvable situations, we can trust that divine Love is always at work in our families to help us bring about a solution.
