Hockey healings

Our son, Evan, has been playing ice hockey for years. Hockey can be a tough, body-contact sport, so my husband and I consistently pray when Evan takes the ice. This past season, he had some injuries, but he experienced healing each time.

The first tournament of the new season, he was checked illegitimately into the boards and was unable to raise his arm. His shoulder and collarbone were hurt. (Although we did not have it X-rayed, his shoulder was painful, and after inspecting his arm, we were concerned he might have sustained a fracture.) We started by forgiving the young man who took the “cheap shot,” to use the hockey term, and cherished the idea that nothing could separate Evan from God and his full and free expression of Him; it wasn’t in someone else’s hands to be taken away or altered in any way, despite a great deal of hometown rivalry in this game. My husband and I were led to address these beliefs of rivalry and animosity in prayer, opening our thoughts to divine Love.

Back in the locker room, we helped Evan change out of his gear while the game continued. We talked to him about this and reiterated why he plays in the first place. We agreed it was to express God’s love by doing his best, supporting his fellow teammates, and feeling the joy of movement, harmony, and dominion. We shared with him that his team needed the prayer and acknowledgment of this love of God right then. Evan concurred, and his entire attitude changed for the better. We were very grateful that he said the initial pain subsided with the three of us immediately praying.
