Constant protection as a stuntman

Without my reliance on Christian Science I would not have survived a hazardous career of over 50 years as a stuntman. From early youth, I applied what I’d learned in the Christian Science Sunday School—that God is All-in-all, always with us, and that nothing can separate us from His care and love. During my growing-up years, I had many healings, which established my lifelong trust in this scientific system of healing.

When I was 21, I decided to take Primary class instruction in Christian Science healing. Before taking this course, I’d planned on becoming an opera singer. But afterward, I felt divinely led to use my athletic abilities (in college I’d pursued gymnastics, swimming, and diving) and become a stunt double in the movie business.

It was a tremendously exciting and interesting career. I was a stuntman for such film greats as Clark Gable, Kirk and Michael Douglas, Steve McQueen, Tony Curtis, Charles Bronson, and Jack Nicholson, among others. Each morning I began with studying the Christian Science Bible Lesson. I saw my work as an opportunity to express the talents God had given me, and to honor Him. I regularly prayed on the set as well.
