Quick healing of seasonal allergy symptoms

In April 2010, we were having a particularly beautiful spring where I live in the Midwest. All the flowering trees and shrubs burst into bloom simultaneously—a rare occurrence. At the same time, the media were full of reports of a record high pollen count, and I, who had never shown allergy symptoms before, suddenly succumbed to an onslaught of them. Not only did I experience the more usual symptoms, but there was swelling and extreme pain in my sinuses as well, which greatly interrupted my sleep.

I prayed with a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal that begins, “In atmosphere of Love divine / We live, and move, and breathe” (No. 144). This confirmed for me the truth that all is divinely mental, and that the atmosphere of Love, or God, couldn’t possibly include anything that would cause suffering. Continued prayer and reaching out to divine Mind also brought the assurance found in Genesis 1:26 that “God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion . . . over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (I figured that pollen could certainly be considered a “creeping thing.”)

Much inspiration followed, and I was aware that others were also doing this prayerful work, especially since there were reports of intense allergic reactions in our city as well as elsewhere. I realized that this was an opportunity not just to get rid of painful symptoms, but to grow in my spiritual understanding of the divine cause as the only cause, and to widen my prayer to include all.
