‘People power’ prayer

The words “people power” have been on many people’s lips these days, especially in relation to Egypt and other events in the Middle East. Tunisians have ousted their corrupt ruler, the army appears to be in control in Egypt, Jordan’s King Abdullah has made changes that may prevent an uprising in his kingdom. The opposition movement in Iran continues to hold on.

Change on this scale is major, particularly in Egypt, which many consider the central nation of the Arab world. At this point, it’s hard to tell which direction these changes will take. From a political standpoint, it all may seem like a giant chess game where the pieces are being reset. And yet if one takes a spiritual view, this can be seen as a time for healing.

These countries represent a potential powerhouse of good—not just because of oil resources but because of the energy, intelligence, and strength of the young people who long for an opportunity to contribute intelligently to their nations and the world. Our prayers can support a good, and satisfying outcome for them at every level.
