Injured ankle quickly healed
I had the privilege of being raised in a home where both my parents were Christian Scientists and took me to Sunday School every week. From an early age, I benefited from being taught the basics of this divine law that is applicable to any situation. I’ve experienced many demonstrations of the effectiveness of this Science, in healings involving unemployment, finding a home, relationship difficulties, and numerous physical difficulties.
Early one Sunday morning last summer, I was out running with my dog while breaking in a new pair of running shoes. Just as we returned home, I awkwardly fell off the curb and badly twisted my ankle. Throughout her writings, Mary Baker Eddy taught the wisdom of watching the quality of our thoughts. She wrote, “You must control evil thoughts in the first instance, or they will control you in the second” (Science and Health, p. 234). In this situation, what came to thought was another statement from Science and Health: “When an accident happens, you think or exclaim, ‘I am hurt!’ . . . Now reverse the process. Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why . . .” (p. 397).
I reminded myself that the Bible tells us man is made in the image and likeness of God, and that everything He created was very good (see Gen. 1). I acknowledged that the all-knowing Mind, God, knew me as His idea, and that because God was my Mind, I couldn’t know anything He didn’t know. Therefore, I couldn’t know or experience injury and pain.
