Back pain healed
Last year, my husband and I went with my brother and his wife to a nearby town to participate in an outside bazaar. Shortly after lunch, I found myself in excruciating pain in my lower back. I could hardly move, so we left. As soon as we got home, I went to bed because I could not get in a position where my back wouldn’t hurt.
My husband (at the time, we’d been married five months) is supportive of Christian Science, and respected my desire to rely on God for healing. He offered to take me to a hospital or get me a heating pad or medicine, but I explained that I wanted to pray instead.
A line from Hymn 148 from the Christian Science Hymnal came to thought: “The storm may roar without me” (Anna L. Waring). I said that over and over, reminding myself that the “storm” of pain was outside of me—it had nothing to do with my real spiritual self. The pain wouldn’t quit, though, and I stayed in bed the remainder of the weekend.
