'Unceasing' prayer
While we were raising four children, I would occasionally read this verse from the Bible in the Christian Science Bible Lesson, “Pray without ceasing” (I Thess. 5:17). My reaction generally was, “Oh ha! Right!” It just didn’t seem possible to follow this directive with the duties and activity that went along with a busy household. I needed to feel there was a way I could “pray without ceasing” right then, not at some future time.
One day I took out my Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy and started in on the first chapter, titled “Prayer.” I was rewarded with finding four statements that gave me an answer. And they were:
• “Desire is prayer; . . .” (p. 1).
