Prayer heals skin condition
An experience I had several years ago strengthened my spiritual roots and deepened my conviction in the power of God to always meet every need, no matter how challenging the situation may appear to be. I had just made a change in location, and felt God’s provision and care in every aspect of the move. My gratitude for Mind’s direction, evident in so many details, was joyous and heartfelt.
Then in late spring, about a month after the move, I started to feel unwell. There were several disturbing symptoms, and with each instance of discomfort I prayed earnestly to see my spiritual nature, whole and complete. I felt confident that I’d gain my full freedom, and never doubted that my prayers would be effective. I sought to understand better my true health and its eternal source in God. I found this description of health in Mary Baker Eddy’s writings to be inspiring and helpful: “Health is the consciousness of the unreality of pain and disease; or, rather, the absolute consciousness of harmony and of nothing else” (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 11).
My thoughts were buoyed, but there was no change in my physical condition. In fact, a new, more alarming symptom appeared. Large reddish spots started to appear on different parts of my body without warning. I look back now and laugh at how I let this situation dominate my attention and disturb my peace. My prayer went into high gear, but fear crept in and caught me off guard.
