Progress report

After elementary school, which I completed successfully, my parents thought it would be good to enroll me in a private high school with a good reputation for the quality of its teaching. But when I started the year in this new school, I couldn’t master the material and that’s when I was gripped by a great fear.

My father suggested that I see a Christian Science practitioner so I could quietly pray with his support. So I went to the practitioner. He reassured me with spiritual truths that reminded me of the nature of my true identity. I understood better that I could not be ruled by fear because I was a child of God and expressed only the totality of God in which there is neither fear nor failure to understand any courses. As a child of God, I was a complete idea, with qualities such as intelligence, wisdom, insight, attention, reason, understanding, expression, accuracy, precision, appreciation, depth, power, and obedience. The practitioner even wrote these qualities down on a piece of paper so that I could think about them every day and, most important, know that I always had them in me.

Although we talked about many spiritual truths during our meeting, some of them really caught my attention. One of them is in the Bible: “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite” (Ps. 147:5). Another is in the book Science and Health, where Mary Baker Eddy defines intelligence. She wrote: “Intelligence is omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence. It is the primal and eternal quality of infinite Mind, of the triune Principle,—Life, Truth, and Love,—named God” (p. 469). I realized that intelligence is an essential quality of God, and therefore the foundation of all things.
