Christian Science Nursing Conference draws international participation
CSNN. October 12, 2011.
Approximately 80 Christian Science nurses from around the globe gathered early in September for a three-day conference held at CedarS Camps in Lebanon, Missouri. The theme of the conference, “Walking Over the Wave,” came from the biblical story of Jesus walking on the water (see Matt., chap. 14), and Mary Baker Eddy’s statement that “Jesus taught us to walk over, not into or with, the currents of matter, or mortal mind” (Unity of Good, p. 11). Surrounded by the beautiful Ozark foothills, individuals from across the United States, Canada, England, France, Switzerland, South Africa, and Australia participated in workshops, heard inspiring talks and informative reports, practiced skills, and enjoyed an uplifting concert centered on the theme. Attendees also heard talks by representatives from The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, including Christian Science Nursing Activities, the Committee on Publication office, The Mary Baker Eddy Library, and the Christian Science Board of Directors.
The International Christian Science Nursing Conference, hosted by the Christian Science Nursing Network (CSNN) is the only symposium of its kind available to any and all Christian Science nurses. CSNN was incorporated fourteen years ago to support the healing ministry of Christian Science nursing by “providing forums for perpetuating and strengthening communication among Christian Science nurses.” The aim is to enable Christian Science nurses worldwide to stay in touch with one another through newsletter articles, a website, and the biennial conference.
Christian Science nurses serve those relying on Christian Science for healing according to standards set by the Manual of The Mother Church and with respect for the statutes and laws governing the land where they practice.
