When my husband was fired: how I prayed

I think of God’s angel messages as manna. As Mary Baker Eddy says in her Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896: “Never ask for to-morrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment” (p. 307).

This proved true in my experience. While my husband was working overseas for his firm, he received notice that his employment was terminated, effective one month prior to his receipt of the letter of termination. (This was many years ago, and the firm had sent a letter via boat.) No inkling of such action had even been hinted at when the firm’s major partner had visited the office previously. The whole procedure was so irregular that it left my husband in a state of shock, and it sent other members of the overseas business community back to check their contracts to see whether such a thing could happen to them as well.

My husband consulted his firm’s lawyer, who expressed concern that the firm’s actions were not legally correct. He referred my husband to another lawyer to give us help in straightening out the situation. Since it was clear that this action could cast a large shadow over my husband’s career, a letter exonerating him was drafted by the lawyer and sent to the firm for proper signatures.
