The following was written in support of Church Alive, a focus of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, that explores the meaning and possibilities of awakening to the spiritual basis and impact of Church.
Embody Church—all day, every day
Today we’re all living, working, and moving in every corner of the globe. Sometimes we wonder if we will find a Christian Science church in a new place. In parts of the world, there are many towns, cities, and villages where there are no other Christian Scientists except oneself. And, in some places, we look around and see our churches diminishing in members, closing their doors, or downsizing to meet the current financial and personal needs.
What have you done to heal these perceptions in your own thought or life? What can you do about this? Can it be changed, reversed—healed?
At one time, my husband and I found ourselves in a city where all of the Christian Science churches around us appeared to be phasing out. Each time we attended a service, we would use the time to pray about the service and its healing efficacy for the community. But we realized we needed to do more.
