Life-transforming ideas

I first encountered Christian Science here in Nairobi about ten years ago, when I was going through a tough period in my life. I had just lost my job as a machine operator with a plastics manufacturing company, and I was buying and reselling factory waste materials for reuse and recycling by other manufacturers. I was not getting the materials regularly, and not in large quantity, so my business was paying less and less, and this felt very stressful.

At this point, a friend of mine introduced me to Christian Science and suggested that I attend some church services. I became interested in The Mother Church at first because I knew it had branches all over the world. I joined a local branch, hoping that at some point I would have the opportunity to go abroad, make friends, and eventually relocate myself to “greener pastures.” I was feeling that my country was poverty-stricken, and I thought I would one day take a break from it.

However, as I continued attending church services, and reading the Bible and Science and Health at home, I learned some life-transforming ideas that gradually changed my thought. I realized that the earth is full of God’s love, regardless of the geographical boundaries, and I started to think of myself as a beloved creation of God, who cannot be vulnerable to hopelessness, adversities, or helplessness. This shift of thought enabled me to see the work I was employed in as God-given, and it annihilated my fear and feeling of discontent in that work.
