Completely healed of allergic reactions
It was a perfect spring day in Washington, DC. My husband and I had just arrived with two of our grandchildren. We had scheduled a full week of fun and educational activities. But on our first outing I began experiencing symptoms of seasonal allergies. The reaction was severe, and I wondered how I could do all the things we’d planned. I quickly put that suggestion to rest and turned my thought to God’s goodness and allness.
Some clear and simple ideas came to my rescue—that God is everywhere and He fills all space. Every Christian Science Sunday School student learns this early on. So there was no place where a belief of allergic reaction could lodge in my consciousness. God is the only Cause and Creator—of all the blooming plants and of me. I couldn’t be adversely affected by anything in God’s perfect creation. Science and Health teaches, “The floral apostles are hieroglyphs of Deity” (p. 240). That meant only harmony could result from my interaction with the beauty I saw around me.
A line from a hymn, “The joy that none can take away / Is mine; I walk with Love today” (Minny M. H. Ayers, Christian Science Hymnal, No. 139), reminded me that our motives for bringing our grandchildren were loving and pure, so nothing could interfere with this right activity. I also considered purity as a quality of God, which I reflected; therefore, nothing impure could invade my being. Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “Mentally contradict every complaint from the body, and rise to the true consciousness of Life as Love,—as all that is pure, and bearing the fruits of Spirit” (Science andHealth, p. 391). I was delighting in this consciousness of purity, and filled with gratitude to God for His ever-available messages of truth. Very quickly, these thoughts resulted in a cessation of the symptoms.
