Writing—a secret place to listen to God

When you look at this picture of the sunrise, what do you imagine? A lighthouse? A birthday candle? A keyhole? A magic wand? Maybe a train in the night?

A boy in fourth grade said, "You know what it's like—when you open a box of crayons, and it's still dark inside." His image sparked my imagination, so I wrote this poem for him and his class:
