A letter from Australia

Hi, my name is Helen, and I live in Australia. My hair is brown and so are my eyes. I am one of the taller students in my class. I'm a bit of a tomboy, and I prefer not to wear dresses, except as part of my school uniform. (In Australia, most childen wear school uniforms.) My likes include being adventurous, going on Scout and school camping trips, horseback riding, and rock climbing. At the moment I am learning to play the recorder, the flute, and the piano. My favourite sport is netball.

There are four members in my family: my mother, Silvia, my father, Owen, my younger brother, Phillip, who is eight years old, and me. I am eleven. We don't have any pets yet, but I would like a dog.

My dad is a salesperson, so he's away from home a lot. And my mum is a secondary-school math teacher. We have fun times when we play family games together, such as Pictionary, Disney Trivial Pursuit, and Monopoly. I also like going to the beach. When we're at the beach, I love to explore the rocks with Phillip. He and I also go on short bike rides through parks in our area, and we climb trees. The best times are when we go on holiday as a family.
