Scarlett was OK!
Since I was three years old, I have loved chicks. Now that I am eight, I am old enough to have my own chicks. First Daddy and I built a coop for when the chicks got older. Then we bought five chicks. They were all one day old when I brought them home.
I named one of my chicks Scarlett. She was supposed to be a Rhode Island Red, and she was much smaller than the other chicks. Scarlett was so small that she fitted into one of my hands. She was a reddish color and had feathery feet. She was very sweet.
When we brought the chicks home, we put them in a cage. The cage was in my bedroom because, even though we live in California, it was October and it was a little chilly. All baby chicks need a temperature of about 95 degrees for the first few weeks.
