ENOUGH TO SHARE

Riots broke out in my country, Indonesia, in May 1998. A lot of people were plundering, burning, and destroying shops and houses. All this was blamed on the confusing political situation, which resulted in economic depression, social jealousy, and moral degradation.

One day during the height of the riots, the company where I worked sent us all home before noon, because burning was going on everywhere. From the 13th floor of the building, we could see thick smoke covering the skies on all sides of Jakarta.

At first I was as scared as the rest of my co-workers. But then I turned to God in prayer and recalled a passage in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy that says, "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts" (p. 261). As I thought about this statement, I became calm. I remembered that God's sons and daughters must express good qualities, such as purity, honesty, calmness, and joy. Otherwise they would not be the likeness of their heavenly Father-Mother, and the Bible starts out by saying that this is true.
