A quick healing
I was ironing cotton trousers and had turned the iron up to its hottest level. When I knocked against the ironing table, the iron fell toward the floor, and I tried to grab it. My hand closed over the scalding metal. I gasped in pain and quickly let the iron fall to the floor. When I looked at my hand, I saw there was burnt flesh on the fingers and palm. At that moment, I remembered my mother's advice to put a burn under cold water. I saw I had a choice to make.
These words from the Christian Science textbook came to mind: "Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation" (Science and Health, p. 393). Also, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter" (p. 468).
