When kids hit the road
A mom freaks out . . . and gets over it.
"Well, she's on the road now," I say to myself. My daughter Aly and her roommate got up early this morning to begin a fifteen-hour, straight-through drive from Omaha to New Orleans.
Are they excited about their four-day vacation? You bet. Am I? Nope.
From the moment I first heard of their trip, I hoped it wouldn't come to pass. Why couldn't I share their enthusiasm? For several excellent reasons, the mom in me argued. For starters, it was too far. They hadn't allowed enough time. Traveling on the interstate can be dangerous. And it was supposed to rain.
