Help in an emergency
During the energy crisis of the 1970s, when gas was scarce and cars were lined up at gas stations, I bought a motor scooter, primarily to get to work and back.
One afternoon a car pulled out of a parking lot without stopping, and knocked me and my machine flat on the street. The driver stopped momentarily, then sped away.
Some young men across the street saw this and came to help me. They were able to bend my scooter back into shape so that I could reach home. But by then my legs had become rigid.
