Feeling the light of Truth
One day I found a painful lump in my breast. Having heard a number of news reports about the dangers of this kind of condition, I was very afraid. I knew that spiritual healing takes place in consciousness, through the power of God. And I wanted to rely on God for healing in this situation. So I refused to examine my body, and refused to look for what I didn't want to see or feel.
Instead, I turned to God in prayer. This passage from Science and Health was very helpful as I prayed: "Tumors, ulcers, tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of Truth [God]" (p. 418).
