When God lets down His ladder
Can it reach all the way to you?
What good is a ladder that almost reaches? None whatsoever, I moaned, as I stretched on tiptoe. I was at the top of a stepladder, discovering that a half-inch gap still remained between my paintbrush and the molding I was trying to paint.
But God's ladder—now, that's different! His "Life-line," that uncuttable connection we all have with Him, always reaches. Even when we feel we're at the bottom of the deepest, darkest pit, His ladder reaches all the way down to us. And on it His angels—comforting, strengthening God-thoughts (the very ones needed, and as many as needed)—come to us. As we listen, they speak to the heart, scoop us up, and lift us up to where we belong. These sweet glimpses of God's unchanging love assure us that nothing can cut us off from God, because we're really always linked to Him.
The Bible talks about Jacob's ladder (see Gen., chap. 28), offering a good example of how far God's ladder can reach.
