When Softwing flew the coop

Softwing is a cockatiel, a beautiful bird from Australia. He has gray and white feathers, a yellow plume on his head, and orange cheeks. He loves to sit on people's shoulders. He also likes cracked ice cubes, and he always says, "Hi, bird!"

One morning, while Addie, Softwing's owner, was at school, her mom opened the front door to get the mail. She forgot that Softwing was perched on her shoulder. Can you guess what happened? Off flew Softwing, straight up into the sky and out of sight.

Addie's mom felt very bad. She was upset with herself for being careless. And she was afraid that Softwing might not be able to find his way home. Softwing knew every corner inside their house, but he had never been outside of it before. Addie's mom decided to call a Christian Science practitioner to help her pray about Softwing.
