New appointments
This month, Dr. Mary Metzner Trammell, C.S.B., will become Editor of The Christian Science Journal, Sentinel, Herald, and Quarterly. "Trinka," as she is affectionately known to her co-workers, first joined our staff as Archivist in Church History. In 1992, she was appointed Associate Editor, with special responsibility for the Heralds. Her earlier experience as a university professor, her familiarity with several languages, and her freshness as a writer brought vitality to the many magazines and broadcasting activities under the Herald banner. We look forward to having that experience enrich the entire range of our religious periodicals.
Mary takes over from William E. Moody, C.S.B., who has just begun his service as President of The Mother Church. We are deeply grateful to Bill for his skill and leadership as Editor of our periodicals since 1992. During his tenure, there has been a large increase in the number of articles submitted, especially by first-time writers, and the graphic and editorial redesigns of all four of the periodicals under his charge have been well received. In the past, Bill's versatility has also been demonstrated through his service as Assistant Manager of Committees on Publication and by a term as Clerk of The Mother Church.
The next steps in organizational adjustment relate to our Associate Editors. Heloisa Rivas, C.S., will move from The Christian Science Board of Lectureship to fill the post of Associate Editor of the Herald, vacated by Mary Trammell. Heloisa grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and graduated in sociology and politics from the University of Sao Paulo. In 1964, she joined our Translations Department. She held a variety of management posts there, moving in 1995 to the managing editorship of the Portuguese Herald—and from there to the Board of Lectureship, where she served as Manager of Training. Her fluency in six languages made her a valuable resource for all of our lecturers, especially those from non-English-speaking lands and cultures. These skills will be of great value to the Heralds.
