Injured foot healed; family harmony restored

Several years ago I was traveling with my family across the United States in a recreational motor home. On the evening of the second day, I stepped backward off a raised platform and fell forcefully with one foot twisted under me, damaging the large toe.

I turned in prayer to God immediately. This statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy comforted me: "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony" (p. 424). I accepted the truth of this idea and continued listening for God's messages of assurance and love.

The next morning, however, my foot was swollen and discolored, and a decision was made that when we reached Salt Lake City I should have it X-rayed. I was not in favor of this, because I had learned through the study of Christian Science that all causation rests in God, divine Mind, not matter. Also, I had experienced quick healings of other physical ailments through an understanding of God's love and His government of my life.
