"It seemed that age and lack of ability conspired to bring him to a standstill."
When we're looking for a new job, the theory that some people possess more ability than others can be daunting. We may feel inexperienced or unqualified for the job we're pursuing. Sometimes doubt of our ability would make us afraid even to try.
But these feelings don't take into account what is true about God, about His allness and goodness. Our loving Father-Mother God does not mete out ability in varying degrees; He cherishes each child as His own image. You may be familiar with the analogy that man reflects God as an object is reflected in a mirror. One aspect of this exact representation is that the image cannot be selective in what it reflects. Every child of God fully reflects the qualities of God, that is, the qualities of divine Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Principle. The notion that an individual idea can be only a partial image, perhaps reflecting love but not much intelligence, or integrity but not much skill, displays an ignorance of the nature of reflection.
Ability to express God is not therefore dependent on education or environment, and it cannot be affected by them. Science and Health makes clear that "God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis" (p. 258). This is man's ability: the activity of Love, Mind, Truth, developing itself, forever including the capacity for complete expression.
