Food poisoning healed through prayer

A number of years ago, while traveling in a foreign country, I suddenly became very sick with what appeared to be a severe case of food poisoning. I could barely get out of bed. My wife and I began praying, knowing that food cannot affect the harmony of man, since man is the idea, or perfect expression, of God. I thought of passages from the Bible and Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. In answer to the question "What is the scientific statement of being?" (see Science and Health, p. 468), Mrs. Eddy describes man as spiritual, not material. It appeared, however, that there were two "me's"—one spiritual and perfect (not susceptible to food poisoning), and the other material and imperfect (which had been poisoned and needed healing). I had been praying from the incorrect basis that I was a sick mortal trying to become well. Someone once commented that Mrs. Eddy gave the world "the scientific statement of being"—not the scientific statement of becoming. The truth is, there are not two universes, one spiritual and the other material, but only one, which is entirely spiritual.

As I was singing, I could feel the symptoms drain away and my strength return.
