Trust in God brings peace and healing
Translated from German
About two years ago, while on a visit to my mother, I suddenly started itching all over. I scratched some, but it kept getting worse. Finally, my entire body was red in places and itched terribly.
My mother and my sister, who was also there, tended to me lovingly. They were calm, both of them having already witnessed many healings through Christian Science. After sleeping for a bit, I saw a copy of Science and Health on the bookshelf. I was able to go get it, and when I opened it, my gaze fell on the word fear in the Glossary. The explanation reads: "Fear. heat; inflammation; anxiety; ignorance; error; desire; caution" (p. 586). All of a sudden it hit me. I was living in an inner state of anxiety and uncertainty without noticing it at all. My husband had a new job, which I wasn't very happy about at all. It meant that he was away a lot, and the whole employment relationship seemed very insecure to me. Moreover, my daughter had informed me she would be moving into her own apartment. Since we have plenty of room in our house, I didn't see any reason for this move either.
All of this occupied my mind a great deal. I had a great desire for stability and certainty, and was afraid of the future. Science and Health explains, "To put down the claim of sin, you must detect it, remove the mask, point out the illusion, and thus get the victory over sin and so prove its unreality" (p. 447). My sin was that of not trusting completely in God—not leaving everything up to Him, but thinking that I knew better what was good for us and what wasn't. I had to leave everything up to God. He would watch out for my daughter; He would always supply us with everything that was necessary. I read in Romans, "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God" (8:28).
