Prejudice overcome; extreme dizziness conquered
Although I had attended Sunday School as a child, I did not attend church regularly until recently. For the past five years I have been a devoted Christian Scientist.
Thirty-five years ago, when a dark-skinned African-American was desirous of obtaining a nonuniformed position in the communications division of the police department, it was almost unheard of. Even though African-Americans held uniformed positions, the path was paved with racial prejudice. When I entered this hostile work environment, I knew that I needed something upon which to lean. Therefore, I resumed my study of Christian Science. It helped me pray effectively for myself and for the safety of the police officers and the citizens of the city.
