Flu quickly healed

Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "Thought passes from God to man, but neither sensation nor report goes from material body to Mind. The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man" (p. 284). Some time ago, I had an experience in which understanding this passage provided the basis for healing.

One day, I began experiencing symptoms of the flu. As a Christian Scientist, it was natural for me to turn to God in prayer for healing. But after praying for most of the evening (and getting nowhere, since the symptoms were becoming more aggressive), I realized that the perspective from which I was praying needed improvement. I wasn't really listening for God's voice. And I was thinking of myself as a sick mortal, separated from God, instead of declaring truth from the basis of God's omnipresence and of man's unbreakable relation to God. I didn't need to somehow work my way back into being God's beloved child; man is always united with his divine Principle, Love, and is forever experiencing the goodness that God is imparting to His children.

When I recalled that communication is always from God to man, as Science and Health points out, I decided just to listen—and trust. I felt confident that listening to God and trusting His thoughts would lead me out of the mistaken belief that sickness is a reality.
