FAMILY MATTERS
Are your children really on their own?
"Although we rarely had serious disagreements, there were clashing wills and anger during this conversation."
When our son told us he was not happy with dormitory life and wanted to get his own apartment in his second year of college, his dad and I didn't take him seriously, assuming it was against university rules.
But he called just a few weeks before school started and told us he had found the perfect apartment. It cost less than the dorm, it was legal for a sophomore, and he needed a down payment right away. Was I surprised! Although we rarely had serious disagreements, there were clashing wills and anger during this conversation. We agreed to talk the next day.
I turned my thought to God. I tried mightily to acknowledge God's government and care. But our son's situation kept pulling at me. All night I wrestled with fear. He'd be alone. Would he be safe? Would he go to class? He was too young. Would he eat? And I was also concerned that his girlfriend would move in with him.
