"All God's children of whatever age are under His protection."

When the story about the shootings in the Springfield, Oregon, high school was reported, I wrote to a friend in Seattle and suggested we pray for children. In the chapter entitled Glossary of the Christian Science textbook, I found "Children of Israel" (see p. 583). There were so many ways that God protected these children from the soldiers of the king of Egypt. I realized that all God's children of whatever age are under His protection, and we need have no fear for their (our) well-being. How comforting this knowledge is.

Violent behavior in children and teenagers stops via prayer defending the God-guaranteed right of all to be free from evil influences. No matter how far a teen or youngster seems from the message of God's love and power, our Father-Mother God is on the job giving His child the angels (thoughts) he needs. Prayer recognizing the precious individuality of each as a child of God challenges evil intent. "For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure" (Phil. 2:13). Teenagers want to do the right thing. God tells them how, and our prayers can help them hear.
